Capsule Endoscopy
A swallowable camera that images your digestive tract without surgery, reviewed by a specialist.
Gut & Digestive Health
Cancer Detection
Parts of your digestive tract are notoriously hard to see, sitting beyond the reach of a standard scope. A Capsule Endoscopy offers an elegant way around that: a small, swallowable camera that captures images as it travels naturally through your gut, with no surgery and no sedation for the capsule itself.
What It Is
The capsule is about the size of a large vitamin and contains a tiny camera. Once swallowed, it travels through your digestive system and records images along the way. It offers a way to image parts of the gut that are otherwise difficult to reach, making it a comfortable, non-surgical alternative when imaging of that area is warranted.
What It Measures
The procedure captures detailed imaging of the gastrointestinal tract as the capsule passes through it. Those recorded images are then reviewed by a specialist, giving a thorough view of an area that is hard to examine any other way.
What To Expect
There is some preparation involved, and the team gives you clear instructions beforehand, which may include adjusting what you eat and drink. On the day, you swallow the capsule with water and wear a small recording device that captures the images. You can usually go about a normal day while the capsule does its work, and it passes naturally afterwards. The team will also give you clear safety information beforehand, as capsule endoscopy is not suitable for everyone.
Your Results
The recorded images are reviewed by a specialist, and a clinician explains the findings to you in the Precursor app. If anything needs further assessment, your clinician guides you calmly through the next step. As with every Precursor test, the aim is a clear understanding of what was found and a sensible plan, not worry.
